INCORRECT INDOOR LIGHTING

PLayers

LED Tubes

Avoid them. The LED tube is generally a replacement for a fluorescent T8 tube. Unlike the ‘glow’ of a fluorescent tube, an LED tube is an extremely direct light source. Although much more efficient than a fluorescent it does not offer a similar beam angle or colour rendering, often appearing washed out - i.e. with low Colour Rendering Index (CRI). CRI is a quantitative measure of the ability of a light source to reveal the colors of various objects faithfully in comparison with an ideal or natural light source. A common myth is that LEDs do not flicker, but it is the tube drivers that determine how much or how little flicker there is, and the drivers used in LED tubes are generally low quality and therefore do flicker. They are inappropriate for use lighting racket courts.

Symmetrical non-diffused Lighting

The LED chip is covered by an optical lens to spread light over a wide area. Without diffusion this creates both glare and on-court shadows. Light can also escape to neighboring courts and viewing areas. They are inappropriate for use lighting racket courts.

If you have either of these types of lighting at your facility please get in touch and we will advise you how to replace them with appropriate lights that will deliver significant improvements for players, spectators and you as the operator.
